2009 Gardens

Here's a preview of some of the dramatic displays featured in this year's show:

R.J. Schickler of Scottsville promises to "bring a taste of city life to GardenScape" with a display entitled "Up on the Roof." They invite visitors to "experience new heights and rise into the skyline as you escape to your roof-top garden retreat," perhaps to "invite friends over for an evening of entertainment and relaxation."

RV Landscapes' exhibit will feature the beauty and allure of running water as they as guests to "come and relax by the water under a protective pergola" after following a winding path to their water retreat.

Birchcrest Tree & Landscape imagined what their office might look like if they just let Mother Nature take over, and their display offers the results. Seed packs meant for a customer's garden are sprouting in a bag of topsoil, an untrimmed tree has burst through the window and now houses a family of cardinals, and what once was a desk seeks to have taken root and become part of the landscape!

A tranquil and secluded getaway is the key for Twin Oaks Landscape, where a delicately illuminated garden offers the perfect spot for relaxation or entertaining as soft music underscores the scene.

Ted Collins Tree & Landscape will offer a chance to visit "Midnight at the Oasis," a private, nighttime paradise in one's own backyard. Guests are invited to put the worries of the day behind and relax among exotic flowers next to a cozy fire and under a canopy of stars.

The setting for Josh Lawn Care and Landscaping's exhibit features a deep blue sky with a soft-colored sunset, lush green vegetation, colorful flowers, and a slow-moving steam and waterfall tumbling into a small pond. As the mist slowly rises off the crystal clear water it may be hard to imagine that you are standing on a paver stone patio in your own backyard.

RM Landscape invites visitors to enjoy the rewards of an ornamental vegetable garden by walking through the garden to savor the aroma of fresh herbs. Entitled "Nature's Reward," this outdoor living space provides a place to relax amidst the flavors of the garden accompanied by the views and sounds of a waterfall.

Clover Lawn and Landscape has applied the principles of Feng Shui, the Chinese practice of arranging objects to achieve harmony with one's environment. Visitors to this exhibit may meander the stepping stone path through a landscape that harmoniously blends the vide elements: water, wood, fire, earth and metal.

GardenScape guests will have the chance to visit the personal garden studio of a bonsai artist in the exhibit prepared by the International Bonsai Arboretum. Since bonsai are outdoor plants, they are shaped and trimmed on a deck outside the home. Each of the displayed bonsai has required decades to develop into a fine art form. Several different bonsai styles will be displayed, including forests, cascades, windswept and upright.
