On The Stage
During the run of GardenScape, visit the stage in the Dome Arena for a varied program of entertainment from local performers, entertaining show goers with short presentations on the hour. We will enjoy a number of fine performances, including some of the talent returning after their popular appearances at past GardenScape shows.
Examples from our 2008 performers
- Hammered Dulcimer Ensemble of instructor Mitzie Collins, twice named Rochester's Best Folk Musician by readers of City Newspaper.
- The Trumpet Ensemble, New Horizons Clarinet Ensemble and New Horizons Brasso Profundo Ensemble of the Eastman Community Music School.
- Young School of Irish Dance, a sanctioned local school whose students have won local, regional, national, and world competitions.
Design Challenge
Witness our designers in action! The Design Challenge will involve 4 landscape designers on stage, moderated by Pietro Furgiuele, owner & principal designer for Waterford Tilling. Pietro will give each designer either a blank sheet of paper or a base plan to begin. Introduced to a real-life scenario and some initial criteria, the designers begin working against a time limit. Spectators will watch their work on large screen TVs. At the conclusion of the allotted time, each designer is given the stage to present their creations.
One of the 2009 Challenge sessions will focus on a current need for a garden entrance at the First Unitarian Church. The designers will present concepts to the board of directors of the church with the potential of being awarded the job! Additional sessions will involve college Horticulture students. All in all, the 2009 Design Challenge sessions promise to be a creative and entertaining presentation. We hope you will be able to attend one of the daily 11a.m. sessions.
